AD/DA converters and general setup question

Hello there y'all,

Long time lurker and finally created an account to join the community. I must give you all props for tons of helpful information and helping me decide on several purchases for my home studio over the years.

I'm trying to level up my equipment slowly but surely, and the next part of the chain that I am addressing is my ad/da conversion. I currently have a decent lineup of mics (Joly-modded Oktavas, various Shures, AKG, etc.), am putting together an 8-channel Seventh Circle Audio mic pre rack, and run everything into an iMac with Logic Pro. Unfortunately the weak link in the chain is my interface - a Zoom R24, which is great for what it does, but at the very least I'm hoping to upgrade the ad/da conversion like I said.

I would like to keep my budget under $1,500, and would prefer closer to $600-700 (USD). I would love to hear what you all have to say. I've searched around a bunch here and on other sites and have some ideas, but one of the things I'm concerned about is compatibility and latency. I thought about doing a Black Lion Audio mod for a firewire device, buying an older Apogee, or just saving up for something, but any advice would be most appreciated. I don't want to make a "lateral" move and spend $500 on something that won't have an immediate and discernible impact on the quality of my recordings.

Oh, and I do mostly hard rock stuff and for now, I'm focused on getting 8 channels of a really great signal chain, though expansion capabilities are always nice. I think that's about it, but any other ideas or suggestions would be welcome. Thank you!!
