Apogee Symphony 32 purchase? Good idea? Bad idea?

I have the Apogee AD-16X and a DA-16X. I am interested in the Symphony PCIe card setup. I have OSX 10.6.7 on an 8 core Mac Pro. I have two video cards and a UAD card. I only need the 16 channels of analog I/O and don't plan on adding more, so one Symphony 32 card should cover me. My other option I see is the RME RayDat card, but I would rather get away from ADAT because it is so 1995. Plus, the Symphony gives me use of the AES or ADAT connections at the same time if I run the AD-16X/DA-16X in advanced routing, which I could use to hook up my reverbs via AES. The bonus digital I/O is strongly pushing me in the direction of the Symphony.

Is a used Symphony 32 for about $250 a good idea, or should I just pay the extra for the 64? I have read that with the 32 I cannot upgrade past 10.6.7, which is OK. I will probably redo my entire studio in a year or so and I don't use the Mac for anything but audio. I know Logic stops working on 10.6.7 at version 9.1, which is OK. I use Cubase for most of my work, and I am on 6, so I think I am fine there until I redo this system.

Any warnings about a used Symphony 32 purchase? I know lots of people in the past felt burned by Apogee obsoleting things, but I guess I'm buying into a "legacy" system as it is. My MacPro is from 2007, it's an upgraded 2x dual core with 2x quad core CPUs, an unofficial upgrade. It cannot run 10.8 anyways, and I know of no advatage of using 10.7 over 10.6 for digital audio.

If I buy the old card, and all goes south, the only thing I would need to move to current is replace the Symphony 32 with a 64 later on.

Thoughts?

Thank you!
Tim
