I've been really wanting to get into building my own gear. I've got plenty of experience rewiring guitars, changing pickups, ect, and I have some BASIC electronics knowledge; however, I know that wiring a PCB will be a whole 'nother beast. I eventually want to try some of the Seventh Circle Audio and Hairball Audio kits, but I'm afraid that a $400 LA-2A kit would be overkill as my first project.
I suppose my question in; does anyone have a recommendation for a first build that isn't terribly difficult, but won't become obsolete the second I build a *better* (I use that term lightly) kit? I'm open to just about anything; preamps, compressors, eq, whatever you guys think would work.
