(I don't know what's going on with soundcloud but looks like after you listen to a clip you have to refresh the browser before you can play the same clip again??)
Hi,
I've been experimenting with the demo version of Rx 2 for a few days now and have come up with some interesting results.
I took two of Malevolent Creation's albums and wanted to remaster them using the Rx 2 and Reaper.
the first example is from their 1993 album and suffers with horrendous distortion that sounds like it is from clipping(even the guitarist Phil says this about the album, "And then when I heard what was coming out of the speakers I was dying..." ). When you look at the waveform there is no distortion resulting from clipping though. The distortion is inherit in the sound, which makes it much harder to correct. It's not perfect but I think I removed about 60% of the distortion with the Rx 2.
the other example is from their Doomsday X album where the snare is sometimes clipping and other times right at the ceiling just before clipping. It sounds distorted and too "boomy" to me (too much of a boost in the 200hz area) so I used 2 different examples both using the Rx 2 to declip and each respectively using an EQ cut and some light compression on between 185-250hz area.
I posted these because most of the examples I've seen/heard on-line are those which have very little data in it making the RX 2's job easier i.e. a soprano vocal line that has some slight clipping, etc. And with this kind of music, there is a LOT going on at once and wanted to see what the RX 2 could do even with a messy sonic landscape like this.
I'm very impressed with it and now I just have to start saving up for itkfhkh
