Have you gotten to a point with a song where you felt it was pretty well written/arranged, overall the song had potential but the mix just wasn't right, and no matter how many times you tried, something just seemed a bit lacking?
Ultimately this made you after some period of time, give up and realize that this song just wasn't going to be a hit and might have just lacked some things along the way, making the job of fixing it, near impossible without completely rebuilding the song. As a result, you settle just leaving it what you might deem 95% finished and move onto the next track.
This keeps happening with my current track. I think it has great potential, the melody is catchy, the bassline is good, and overall its a good track, but every time I revisit the mix, I can't quite seem to get it just right. There might be a few things off so I go back to adjust it, then something else sounds wrong, and I go in circles. This is especially the case when I reference it on my car speakers or something. It always sounds like its not quite right when listening to it on my car and no amount of tweaking the mix seems to fix it.
