Hey everyone. I'm new here, so I'll keep my post short. I didn't really know where the best place to ask this was, so I just tried this forum. I tried looking around on these forums for my question, but could not really find an answer... So I apologize if this has been asked before. Anyways, I recently watched Paul McCartney's Chaos and Creation, and during the part where he was explaining the 4 track analog tape machine, he started to explain "bouncing" down the tracks to one track, to free up the others for more recording. He also explains how the engineer's hated to do this because it caused a reduction in quality. However Paul said that him and the rest of the Beatles loved it because it gave their guitars a very "Shiny" and "Swirly" kind of timbre. Now my question is, could someone explain to me what exactly is happening and why it causes this "loss in quality?" I personally love the sound myself, and you can really hear it on the guitars on the track "Magical Mystery Tour."
Thank you!
Ryan
