I'm working on a project with a friend. He's doing the vocals and I'm doing the music + mixing. We are currently working on a song, and I finished the composition and arrangement and also the mix is 90% done; I like the way it sounds and I guess it's pretty ready for mastering.
The single missing element are the vocals, because he wasn't able to record them and send them to me until now, because he was busy with his job.
My question is: how should I mix the vocals now? Should I take off the chain I have on my master bus or should I mix the vocals to fit the chain? For me, the logical solution would be the second one, but I am still a novice and I would like to know if you guys have some piece of advice and how you would deal with this thing, or if you ever had to deal with this type of situation please feel free to mention anything. Thanks!!
