moved to a new house. building a studio in the basement.
so far did this:
removed old walls, removed old drop ceiling, removed carpet,
removed air ducts that were in the way and re-ran them,
friend replaced oil burner with quieter gas burner,
sealed creaking floor gaps (basement sealing) with heavy duty liquid nails,
sealed gaps with "great stuff" foam.
now it's ready to have things built not removed, i think
The measurements are:
Height: Exactly: 6 ft 11 in (from the un-carpeted floor to the bottom of 2x6 boards on the ceiling)
Length: Approx: 22 feet (+/- 2inches)
Width: Approx: 11 ft (+/- 2inches)
my idea about control room size:
i want the frequency response to be as flat as possible, but as there are always room modes in every rectangular room.
I want the room modes in this new studio control room to be as different as possible from old studio at my apartment.
the old apartment studio was 11 x 8.9 x 7.9 feet. Ratio: 1 : 1.13 : 1.39)
had big bump at 50hz and around 140hz and a big cancellation around 85hz.
So in the new studio I want the room modes to be as different as possible from these current ones
Which i've decided to go with: (Length x width x height in feet ): 15.7 x 10.9 x 6.8. (Ratio 1 : 1.6 : 2.33)
First photo is the sketch of the side of the basement I'm dedicating to the studio.
2nd and 3rd pics are how im planning to place desk/monitors to either face long or short wall.
i know that it will sound better to face short wall but that way it will be tough to be walking from control room to the the live room. but i'l deal with that later..
right now I need help with these:
1) I'm trying to figure out how to supply Air circulation into live and control rooms without compromising Sound "proofing". I dont want any air noise or people yelling in the other rooms of the house in the recordings. I noticed that air ducts do a good job transmitting sound thru the house. (I'm planning to build double leaf wall between cr room and gas burner)
2) the door/window between CR and live room: i dont wana put the door too close to the wall not too take up space of the corner bass trap. but if the door will be far from the wall than it will be tough to walk (for the ladies especially) from cr to live room when speakers on stands will be in the way. and than the door will take up space and wont be enough room on the wall for the window.
I was thinking of sliding patio door, but wouldn't it cause a lot of reflections?
3)should i angle any particular wall or window?
4) i was planning to put in recessed lights. but wouldn't they create gaps and noise will go thru it? (I'm planning to put plywood and maybe sheetrock too, on the ceiling because it will hold joists and will help minimize creaking/squeaking and sound transmission)
5) the water pipes are way too loud when someone flushes a toilet or turns on water. and the pipes are at the same area where gas furnace is which is right next to my studio
