Phil Hendrie's Mic Technique

Hey guys.

This might be an odd question, but does anyone know anything about the technical aspects of "the Phil Hendrie show"? More specifically, I'm wondering how he executes his "schtick" where he interviews himself. I've read up on him, and am aware that a lot of it is due to his impeccable delivery, and the ability to interrupt himself mid-sentence and make it sound so natural. BUT, if you listen to his shows, there's a definitely change in EQ/color/tonality that seems to occur when he shifts characters. Is this processing, or just awesome mic technique? Controlled proximity effect? The couple youtube videos of him at work seem to just confuse things further (talking into the side of an RE20???).

Any broadcasters or ADR guys who can shed some light on this, I would love to hear from. Thanks in advance!
